Manto was a bar on Manchester's Canal Street; above it was the restaurant Sarasota. Nathan Maloney passed by it as he walked onto the street for the first time. (UK: Meeting People is Easy)

An article on Mancunian Matters claims that Manto "changed the face of Canal Street" when it opened in 1990, mostly because its large windows revealed all, so gays over time no longer felt the need to hide. Manto was closed in October 2013.
